Winter on the Ranch

I’m pretty convinced that I may have a screw loose.
It’s been exceptionally cold for November, and the other morning was no different. I awoke at 5:30am, as is my typical wake-up time, enjoyed some coffee, and wrote a couple articles while I waited for the sun to peek her head over the horizon. I needed the daylight so I could see to go feed one of our stud horses, Silver Bueno Tom, who recently had three teeth pulled. He developed “Prairie Dog Pockets” in his mouth.
As it was explained to me, they don’t really know what causes them, but they couldn’t float his teeth the way they were because there were several loose teeth, so they had to put him under, lay him down, pull three teeth and then float him. We don’t typically “feed” our horses here, but since he can’t have any hay for a couple weeks, he had to go onto a complete feed which added to my daily “to-do” list.
When the sun arrived, I couldn’t believe it. There was a layer of hoar frost on everything and it didn’t matter that it was 3 degrees outside. I jumped, barefooted, into my Muck Boots, tucked my flannel pj pants in the top, threw on a fleece pullover, grabbed my trusty iPhone and flew out the door to get some photos.
Then I decided I better go feed Tom, plus I wasn’t exactly dressed appropriately, so I stuffed myself into some socks and Carhartt coveralls, grabbed my big camera and headed out to see what I could capture. The photos really did turn out beautifully, and I decided they were too good to keep to myself (but please don’t save them, copy them, edit them, alter them or claim them as your own – it’s illegal plus it’s stealing).
Enjoy!
