Everybody loves looking at horses for sale, and everybody loves a bargain. Combine the two, and you have stallion auctions.
It’s the time of year for stallion breedings to be auctioned off, and if a person’s diligent (and lucky), they might score a thrifty breeding! Many of these auctions are set up to benefit a particular event or fundraiser. Often stallion owners are donation these breedings to an association in an effort to promote their stallion and their stallion’s offspring. Some offspring will also be eligible to compete for a bigger purse in that event when they come of age.
Here’s a list of stallion auctions, their websites, days of the auction, and any additional notes. As is normal, winning the bid does not cover other fees, such as mare care, chute fees, semen collection, shipping and others. Be sure to read the fine print as with many of these auctions, a percentage is charged in addition to the winning bid.
The auctions are listed chronologically (some have already started), with their website and comments for a few of them. This is not a complete list of what is out there. Many stallion auctions are specific to a particular discipline or benefit. Now is the time of year to start asking around and shopping in preparation for the upcoming breeding season.

Barrel Jam Stallion Auction
Auction runs Oct. 26-Jan. 25, 2020

One hundred percent of funds raised go to St. Jude Children’s Hospitals.
Heritage Days Classic Stallion Auction
Auction opened Oct. 5 and ends Nov. 27, 2020.
Cowboy State Stallions
Auction runs Dec. 1 at 8 am MT through Jan. 30, 2021 at 6 pm MT.
Bloodlines include Frenchmans Guy, Dash Ta Fame, Streak of Fling, and others.
Triple Crown Stallion Incentive
Auction runs Dec. 1 through January 31, 2021, at 12 am ET.

Auction begins Jan. 1 and ends Jan. 16 at 7 pm MT.

Auction begins Jan. 13, 2021 at 12noon and ends Feb. 15 at 7 pm CT.
