With their tails and manes rippling
Hooves flashing fast in the running
They flow down the hillside
Then charge uphill in stride.
The occasional neigh
Is carried away,
And all that drifts back to me
Is thunder of hoof-beats, wild and free.
Red roans and dark bays
Bright paints and dull grays
Running wild and running free
Over the wide, rolling prairie.
