National Day of the Horse

Posted in: Featured, Horse Training, Photography, Ranch Life

On National Day of the Horse (December 13), we take time to celebrate the horse. The horses that made us, tried us, taught us, showed us love; all the things that make the horse a horse…

“Look back at our struggle for freedom,
Trace our present day’s strength to its source;
And you’ll find that man’s pathway to glory
Is strewn with the bones of the horse.”

Praise the horses that make a cowboy’s job easier.

Give credence to the horses that have made us and taught us to be patient.

“In the end, we don’t know what horses can do. We only know that when, over the past thousands of years, we have asked something more of them, at least some of them have readily supplied it.” – Jane Smiley

Celebrate the horses that go to work for us.

I believe that horses bring out the best in us. They judge us not by how we look, what we’re wearing or how powerful or rich we are, they judge us in terms of sensitivity, consistency, and patience. They demand standards of behavior and levels of kindness that we, as humans, then strive to maintain.

Clare Balding

Let’s praise the horses that make dreams come true.

Today, honor your horse. Without them, we undoubtedly wouldn’t be the people they’ve helped us become.
