How To Fix A Bucket

In the Fall, my horses start scratching their bottoms. Why do my recently dewormed horses find my best and newest bucket to scratch their bottoms on, breaking the metal clasps that hold the bucket handle on????
In a fit of frustration, I turned to a zip tie. Not twine, as I have already tried that. Nor wire as my son had kindly and diligently repaired several buckets, just to have one after one, upon feeding, break again.
Zip ties are holding!!! The thicker the better! I used pliers to “zip” them tight!!! They are holding even several feedings later!
What are some of your favorite quick fixes?
