I am climbing out of my truck to unload Frenchmans Melody, with hopes of her being in foal to AQHA Stallion Fabulous Golden Jet. A beautiful buckskin stud who I have had the pleasure of riding and working a bit on barrels. He has also been team roped on, picked up bucking horses, ranched on, and my favorite (besides all of the barrel races and WPRA $$ he’s won) hat that Corona wears is, halter breaking the Stopwatch Performance Horses’ yearlings.
Master of Feet First Horsemanship and Partner of Stopwatch Performance Horses, Tom Wagoner, shares this great story on how his frustration of halter breaking a yearling, (working hard in the summer heat to get a yearling soft and giving to its first halter) had led him to a candy bar and a shade break. As Tom sat under a shade tree, contemplating a resistant yearling, he looked over at Fabulous Golden Jet, aka, Corona, who had gently taken the confused yearling by the halter and quietly and kindly “played with it” all the while softening the yearling to pressure…the very same pressure master horseman, Tom, had been after. Tom just marveled at the stallion’s patience and persistence and most of all, Corona’s kindness towards this youngster. Tom, said in about 10 minutes, Corona was leading that yearling all over the round pen.
This is the stallion we chose to breed our mare, Frenchmans Melody. She is one of our most celebrated mares- high money earner in the barrel futurities, WPRA Rodeos and Open 4D’s, too. Because of his gentle kindness along with his fast and quiet feet, he caught my eye!
